Performing a Lifetime is an exploration of bodies and identities belonging to the in-between. Saara Mahbouba and Gladys Camilo reflect on the complications of navigating between accurate representation of oneself and one’s community and the traps of performativity, appropriation, and self- exploitation. Exploring the complexities of working ethically in a contemporary art scene that simultaneously lauds and punishes otherness, Performing a Lifetime taps into the artists’ personal experiences of embodying identities that are neither fully within nor without categories of otherness and hegemonic bodies.

Performing a Lifetime explora cuerpos e identidades que no se localizan ni aquí ni allá. el texto de Saara Mahbouba y los dibujos de Gladys Camilo cuestionan cómo representarse a sí mismas y a su comunidad sin caer en las trampas de la performatividad, la apropiación o la autoexplotación. Al señalar sus experiencias en el campo del arte contemporáneo, donde se enaltece la otredad, pero donde también se castiga todx aquellx que reside fuera de la norma, las artistas muestran cómo sus identidades encarnan y rechazan categorías hegemónicas, y reflexionan cómo hacer frente a esta dicotomía de manera ética.
