I Promise this Really Happened presents a fake game show hosted by the artist herself as a TV presenter who explains the rules of a reality-based role-play game where the main character is a young female artist/culture worker that has to navigate a precarious art job market.
The role-play game puts the player in the shoes of a young woman working at a gallery and a non-profit at the same time, who finds out that her predecesor left behind hidden clues around the office to help her survive the disturbingly problematic working conditions of such jobs: from blunt sexism and racism to underpaid internships and absurd make-believe tasks.
The accompanying rule book contains in detail all the clues that are not showed in the video: witty and sardonic comments on the infuriating unfair and precarious labor conditions that many artists and cultural workers face today.
This project was commissioned by Curator Paola Jalili as part of the Office Aesthetics exhibition and archive.
