Transparent

The essence of much of maintenance and administrative labor is that the mess / chaos / problem is the most visible portion of the process, and successful work is rooted in erasing this visibility. The more you work, the less visible your work becomes. This invisibilization is compounded by the fact that work in this sector is typically gendered and racialized, thus undervalued, underpaid, and unrecognized. 

The process of creating this artwork was a simultaneous act of maintenance labor and artistic creation. The project performs simultaneous hyper visibility of labor -  the performative washing and drying of the texts - and invisibilization - the fading of the texts as they are turned into transparencies and left to disintegrate by the weather.
